Join the Locavore Team

Casual, part-time, and full-time roles available. Childcare-friendly hours and job-share options available.

Locavore Regenerative Organic Butchery is looking for neat, food-curious team members to join our growing stores.

Founded by Georgina Goddard and Morgan Wilkie of Brooklet Springs Farm, Locavore exists to connect people with pasture-raised, regenerative, organic proteins — produced with care for land, animals, and community.

We operate calm, clean retail spaces. While we’re a butcher by nature, most meat is prepared, packed, and frozen at our Byron headquarters. In-store roles are focused on customer experience, presentation, and precision — not messy bench work.

In-Store Health Nerd

(Front of House Assistant)

This role suits a food-literate, health-aligned professional who genuinely understands how people eat — and why.

Our Health Nerds are thoughtful, curious, and grounded in real food. They support customers with a wide range of food needs, sensitivities, and health considerations, helping people make informed choices using a calm, food-first approach within a retail (non-clinical) scope.

Well suited to candidates with backgrounds in naturopathy, nutrition, whole-foods cooking, or other allied health or food-as-medicine disciplines.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Serving customers and talking confidently about our meat, broths, and meals

  • Supporting customers with informed, food-first conversations around food choices and sensitivities

  • Maintaining a clean, well-organised, beautifully presented store

  • Stocking freezers and managing small retail wall displays

  • Mixing and packaging select dried goods

  • Supporting daily store operations

  • Supporting online store packing (Byron Bay)

Pay: From $33.00 per hour, based on experience
Role type: Casual with part-time / full-time considered for the right person.
Work location: Tugun (retail only) and Byron Bay (retail / online)

Store Lead

(In-Store Health Nerd with responsibility)

This role suits someone who brings experience, steadiness, and good judgement, alongside strong food and health literacy.

The Store Lead understands customer food needs and sensitivities, models a food-first approach for the team, and ensures thoughtful, consistent customer experience while maintaining high operational standards.

The Store Lead plays a key role in maintaining standards, supporting the team, and ensuring calm, well-run store operations.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Leading front-of-house operations across Tugun and Byron stores

  • Supporting customers with informed, food-first conversations around food choices and sensitivities

  • Setting and maintaining high standards for cleanliness, presentation, and flow

  • Supporting and guiding team members and modelling care, knowledge, and professionalism

  • Opening and closing procedures and daily coordination

  • Identifying issues early and keeping operations running smoothly

  • Being a trusted, capable presence for both customers and team

Pay: Senior rate, reflective of responsibility and experience
Role type: Part-time or full-time, with scope to grow for the right person and fit
Work location: Across Tugun (retail) and Byron Bay stores

Meat Production Assistant

(Back of House)

This role suits someone hands-on who values process, cleanliness, and precision, and who contributes immediately to daily production flow.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Packing meat accurately and efficiently

  • Weighing, labelling, and preparing orders

  • Maintaining food safety and hygiene standards

  • Keeping production areas clean and well organised

  • Supporting the wider butchery team as needed

Pay: Above award rates
Role type: Casual, with scope to move into part-time or full-time for the right person and fit
Work location: Byron Bay (production house)

Apprentice Butcher

This role suits someone committed to learning the trade properly, with care, patience, and respect for whole-animal systems.

We welcome both school-leaver and mature-age apprentices.
Previous work and life experience is valued and recognised within the role.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Learning whole-animal butchery and knife skills

  • Supporting production and packing tasks as part of training

  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food safety

  • Developing yield awareness and respect for process

  • Showing up reliably and ready to learn

Pay: Above award, based on experience and year of apprenticeship
Role type: Full-time apprenticeship
Work location: Byron Bay (production house)

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is naturally neat, tidy, and detail-oriented

  • Loves clean spaces and organised systems

  • Has a genuine interest in real food, health, and where food comes from

  • Is comfortable supporting people with different food needs and sensitivities

  • Is reliable, calm under pressure, and willing to learn

  • Enjoys working as part of a small, values-driven team

Experience in food retail, hospitality, or butchery is helpful but not essential. Attitude, care, and consistency matter most.
