At Locavore, our story is more than just a tale of exceptional meats; it’s about a commitment to sustainability, ethics, and local sourcing. Discover the origins of our name and our dedication to regenerative organic farming practices.
What Does "Locavore" Mean?
The term "Locavore" was popularised by Fleet, an acclaimed restaurant known for its dedication to locally-sourced ingredients. Restaurateurs Astrid McCormack and Josh Lewis built Fleet's reputation on using high-quality produce from local farms, including Brooklet Springs Farm. Their menu featured unique cuts like chicken feet and pork trotters, showcasing the rich flavours and potential of these often-overlooked ingredients.
Fleet’s ingredients, including those from Brooklet Springs Farm, were highlighted as ideal for "locavores." This term, signifying a commitment to local and sustainable food practices, perfectly aligned with Fleet’s culinary philosophy.
Why "Locavore"?
When Georgina Goddard and Morgwn Wilkie, founders of Brooklet Springs Farm, decided to open their own store, the name "Locavore" felt like a natural fit. It embodied their mission to promote ethical, sustainable, and high-quality meat consumption. The name not only reflects their dedication to regenerative organic practices but also pays homage to Fleet’s influence on their journey.

Regenerative Organic Farming: What It Means for You
At Locavore, we practice regenerative organic farming to ensure that our meats are not only flavorful but also responsibly sourced. This involves:
- Ethical Animal Raising: Animals are raised in a stress-free environment, which enhances meat quality and flavour.
- Sustainable Practices: Our regenerative techniques improve soil health, promote biodiversity, and reduce environmental impact.
- Grass-Fed and Finished: Our beef is grass-fed and finished, allowing for deeper flavor and better health benefits compared to conventional grain-fed options.
